Game Ideas/Improvements Empty Game Ideas/Improvements

Post  Nate Wed Mar 23, 2011 6:46 pm

My wish list, which I'll try to update and keep current if there's any feedback or new ideas. Though the first point I'd like to make is no more new cities! At least until some of these or other changes are made. I personally would like to see game play improvement over additional dots on the map.

Passengers

  • Everyone's favorite - more passengers Very Happy - up to realistic levels
  • The more routes you have to a city, the more of a passenger bonus you should get
  • Adjust the formula for certain city pairs - in the comments London-Singapore and Singapore-Sydney were mentioned and there are other examples like SFO-SYD or West Coast US cities to Hong Kong and SE Asia.
  • Be able to better "dominate" and drive a competitor off a route by putting large planes, charging the cheapest fare, and running the most often

AI

  • The AI continually builds in only a handful of cities after their initial hub - Seoul, LA, NYC, etc. It'd be more interesting if each player chose some different cities. Though there should still be some overlap and battling for some of the major markets.
  • It seems the primary AI strategy is to build up to about three cities (2 of which are always LA and NYC Razz) and spread their routes out among those. It'd be nice to see the AI employ other strategies like "primarily domestic routes" or "concentrate primarily on one hub".

Gameplay

  • It would be nice to be able to re-choose the AI cities without having to start the game over again. Having an option to re-shuffle them all or manually pick them would be nice.
  • Leveraged buy-out. I shouldn't have to pay off my loan to buy a competitor.
  • Interest rates - I, personally, load up on debt and there never seems to be that much of a penalty. Larger swings in interest rates would make it more risky (for the better).
  • More logos (from d-mac)
  • Be able to play "eras". This would included period-specific planes, different city populations and ratings, etc. (from dfven)
  • Allow human players to run more than one airline from the start
  • Have a cargo-only or cargo-centric game mode (from drgreenhouse)
  • Be able to view information on purchased businesses (Travel Agency, Limousine Bus, Hotel). This would be in report form (for aggregate profit) and perhaps be able to manage them like flights where you can scroll through them. (from colinlea009)

Event ideas (like weather)

  • Random cities should give you challenges for money/awards if you, for example, connect them to 10 other cities.
  • Airport improvement charge - $$ per route you fly into that city
  • Fuel spike - operating costs spike over a certain period of high fuel prices
  • Low cost competitor (I like this one) - mid-game a new airline starts at one of your hubs. You can see the routes, planes, etc like any other competitor, except 1) They come in with like 15 routes right away 2) They use the same plane on every route 3) This new airline charges less - like 1/4 up the slider for every route BUT 4) They never open new routes or adjust their prices. You can then adjust your prices or try to drive them off by reducing your price to the lowest level. This would work well with the other idea of being able to drive other airlines off the route easier.
  • Prizes - monetary, prestige, or other - for winning the Best Airline award (from flydavis)

Planes

  • Variable plane prices - not per turn, but per game. Every time you start a game the planes of a certain type would fall within a range of pre-defined values. Right now the A330-200 is too good of an option, and it makes the 757 worthless from a business perspective. But if the prices were different every time, gameplay would also change (for the better).
  • Fuel cost - having a fuel rating and cost associated each plane would be cool
  • Embraer Jets (from d-mac)
  • First/business class on regional and smaller jets (from MaarBCH) *note US airlines are doing this now on their regional jets
  • Discount price for large plane orders (from Journeyman)
  • Ability to cancel plane orders (from MSYFLY)

Routes

  • Global pricing adjustment - the ability to increase/decrease all fares by a certain %
  • Default cabin seating and service settings for opening new routes
  • Up to date passenger demand for already opened routes. Even better, I think you should have to pay either per route or for a system-wide "marketing study" which would then update all your routes and would be a good way to make players spend money later in the game.
  • More ways to sort routes - distance, by continental/intercontinental routes, by plane model (not just plane age), by regions, by competitors, by income per passanger (from MaarBCH)
  • Allow stopovers on routes (from Travel73)
  • Allow multiples plane types on a single route (from Travel73 and others)

Cities

  • The game may do this to some extent, but cities with higher business ratings should have more demand for business and first class seats - all other factors being equal.

Thanks!

Game Ideas/Improvements Empty Re: Game Ideas/Improvements

Post  MaarBCH Fri Mar 25, 2011 1:19 pm

I just played a new game. I wanted to test the new features. The progress you made is going into the right direction. Since i found AT1 it is the best game economical strategy game on the ios, by far. thx.

I have 450 Planes on 350 Routes and 62 Cargo Routes. It is almost impossible to manage that Airline! It takes so long to find the Routes on which you have to "change" something. it is just a mess....

some ideas:

in general you should work on the long-time gameplay experience Wink

Management

- More Management options: lower ALL tickets 10%, do marketing campain in a region, market price for the fuel,

- Way more ways to sort the Routes: by distance, by continental/intercontinental routes, by plane model (not just plane age), by regions, by competitors, by income per passanger....

- It would be great if you see on an active route how many passengers are expected, as it is continuous growing...(you only see that when you open a new route).

->have a look at very old Airline Tycoon PCgame, will find some ideas for all of this...

Financal

- u have a bug in your calculation of the company value. (If i get the max credit at the start of the game, i should be "last not fist" on the ranking Wink)

Planes

- Small plane which has BUSINESS and FIRST Class.

- More "difference" between the planes, like fuel usage, speed, ages of uses....

Gameplay

- it is so easy to bulid a regional airline in ASIA and the US, but not in the EU, and you have no chace to do that on the other regions. (You guy are probably Americans, but we here in the EU are also about 350 million
*rich* citizens, it should be as easy as in the us or asia....)

- this i personally like that (i am swiss), but it is so so easy to build a international ONLY airline and you get rich rich rich, and so hard do build a regional airline only...as Nate said sth like a "hub-system" or bouns per route on a city. This would it make more realistic....

Price for this game
priceless

AND i agree with most of what Nate said.... as i said know you will have to work on the long time experience...

thx a great game, plans for a ipad version?

regards
marb

Game Ideas/Improvements Empty Have AI go to different Airports

Post  drgreenhouse Sat Mar 26, 2011 8:16 pm

The AI is pretty predictable - They'll always follow the same routes (London, Paris, Los Angeles, Seoul, Tokyo, New York) and they always compete against each other on the same routes. Less predictability would make for more challenging game play.

Game Ideas/Improvements Empty Suggestions

Post  d-mac Sat Mar 26, 2011 10:08 pm

Some things I would like to see:

-Better way of controlling routes later in the game.

-Embraer jets.

-An across the board increase of passenger traffic.

-Get a better read on demand from certain cities. I plan on doing some research on this and posting a list of what I think the demand should be from certain cities. In particular much of the cities added in the recent update have waaaayyyy too much demand compared to the other cities. Minneapolis, Denver, London, Most Asian and Austrailian cities have demand that is much too low.

-Hub effects. Have a bump in demand to/from cities increase with each new route or passengers handled at city.

-More int'l traffic. And in particular int'l/intercontinental routes with long histories of high demand. Such as New York and Europe, LA/San Fran and Asia, Miami and Carribean/South America, between Buenos Aries/Santiago and Sydney/Auckland, Minneapolis and Amsterdam (Oldest shared route in commercial aviation, between KLM and Northwest, and one of the oldest non-stop trans-Atlantic jet routes), The Kangaroo route (btw London and Sydney, also goes hand in hand with hub traffic as route cannot be done non-stop).

-A better increase in traffic over time. The traffic increases don't seem to accurately reflect the increases in population of cities. And any increase in traffic seems to get wiped out by the recessions.

-The graph for Passengers increasing #'s and % are displayed incorrectly and need to be flipped.

-More airline logos. (I understand there might be copyright problems here.) I'd like to see U.S. Airways, Southwest, KLM, Aer Lingus, Alitalia, South African, LAN, Emirates, Qatar Airways, ANA or any other Japanese airline.

-And finally, if it is all possible to get more save slots that'd be great too, but I understand that it may be limited by Apple's requirements or constraints.

Game Ideas/Improvements Empty Re: Game Ideas/Improvements

Post  Journeyman Tue Apr 19, 2011 1:53 pm

I'm glad I looked here before making my suggestions as you have covered most of what I wanted to say and more.

Just to add a few things
The business/first class seats... I can never ever fill more than 25 of them, even on an Airbus A380 going to NYC, Paris, Dubai etc, which in an Emirates 3 class long range configuration has around 80 for Business class and around 15 for First.

Planes

* Variable plane prices - not per turn, but per game. Every time you start a game the planes of a certain type would fall within a range of pre-defined values. Right now the A330-200 is too good of an option, and it makes the 757 worthless from a business perspective. But if the prices were different every time, gameplay would also change (for the better).
* Fuel cost - having a fuel rating and cost associated each plane would be cool

The 757 for instance can get into and out of fields that the Airbus series of aircraft of similar capacity and range (A320/31/30 aircraft) cannot as it's engines are far more powerful making the thrust to weight ratio better.

Have aircraft more fuel efficient than others per passenger per mile.

We should be able to assign the aircraft to hop from one airport, to another, to another. Auckland, to Sydney, to Dubai for instance is a common route.

The ability to set up a leasing company/lease aircraft such as the Astraeus operation.

The ability to buy aircraft second hand.

Instead of 1 meal type for the whole aircraft, vary it between classes.

In flight selling of food/duty free.

Discount for purchasing larger numbers of aircraft.

Show crew required for basic operation of the fleet and actual crew the company have... perhaps allow fatigue to contribute to accidents.

You sure about the business class thing? Im able to get an B787-8 with 8F,30B,260E.

I am not sure setting up a leasing company is really needed, saying there are ton's of other things which should be implemented first.

In an earlier post you said it was a pain to find a route due to having to go through the route management page. Try selecting the route on the map and pressing the route management button. That should help Wink

I suggest that along information on passenger loads on new routes ..there should information regarding the number of cycles. This would also help on deciding the AC to buy for the route.
for example : if there are 10000 passengers and 30 cycles/week then one can accordingly decide on the aircraft the buy.

Game Ideas/Improvements Empty Re: Game Ideas/Improvements

Post  vinman Mon Jun 06, 2011 11:06 pm

I'd like to touch on a couple things.

Passengers

I think Nate was talking about this, but I wanted to go into more detail. One thing about the game is that the airlines are all hub and spoke carriers, however it seems that the passenger numbers on routes are for direct flights (from city to hub only). It would be much more accurate if your passenger traffic rose as your hub grew. As your hub grows, more connecting passenger travel through the hub. For example, if you start out with a hub in Chicago and you have 1 route to LA, then all the passengers on the route are traveling from LA to Chicago. Let say you then open a new route to NY, currently the way the game works, you are now only flying passengers from Chicago to NY and from Chicago to LA. In the real world, you would also be flying passengers from LA to NY through Chicago. So in this scenario your passenger traffic rises as the number of cities served from your hub grows. So then when you add a new route to Dallas, not can passengers from Chicago fly there, but also from LA and NY. The pricing could get a little complicated, but you have a separate pricing for connecting passengers. The competition would also get a little more complicated.

Also, if you wanted to give the game designers a really fun and complicated task, the more hubs you have with service to the same airports, the less impact cancellations have on you. Example, you have a hub in Chicago and a hub in Dallas. Out of these hubs you serve LA, SFO, NY, DC, and a few others. Now a snow storm hits Chicago and cancels many flights. The passengers that were flying to Chicago as their final destination are out of luck, but the ones connecting can be re-routed through your Dallas hub.

AI

The AI seems to be very erratic in the way it operates. It opens 7-10 routes from a hub and then opens a new hub and repeats. Again in the real world competing airlines compete mainly with their connecting passengers and sometimes do have hubs in the same cities (Chicago, NY, LA, etc.). It would be more realistic if the AI would open a hub or even a couple of them and focus on those hubs before going crazy.

Just a couple of ideas.

Game Ideas/Improvements Empty Re: Game Ideas/Improvements

Post  victor Sat Jun 18, 2011 11:59 am

I've got some ideas and improvements for the game:
-In the update the Boeing 747-8 can carry 725 people! In fact this is 467!!! Maybe the passenger numbers that fit in an airplane could be more realistic (Same problem with the A380)!
-Maybe you could fit the Airbus A350 in the coming update!
-And the most important: in the game i'm buying most of the time(when i get very succesful) 1 747 (like LA to SF) on shorter routes instead of 1 737. But real airlines buy 3 737-900 instead of that one 747. Is this my fault or is it wrong in the game?
-More Chinese destinations, There are very busy routes in China but in Air Tycoon there are only 2 Chinese cities!

Game Ideas/Improvements Empty Re: Game Ideas/Improvements

Post  James90012 Mon Jun 27, 2011 5:51 am

Another couple of ideas:

- If you purchase another airline; you could be given the option whether to 'rebrand' (I.e. take it under your company name) or 'maintain brand' so that it appears to be within a separate company window. This would make it a lot easier to manage, although difficulty may be noticed when it comes to transferring planes between routes between different brands. The reason for this like I said is to make managing large companies simpler and I do think it is an easier option that some others mentioned. Not to mention, personally, I'd like to brand separate companies, such as Atlantic, Europe and Asia within the major brand, this could be obtained by taking over the other company, combining profits, but not name (Name value of purchased company being replaced with your own)

-This is possible more difficult, but a codeshare agreement inclusion may make the game even more interesting

-I'm agreed; we don't need more cities, but we do need a new way to determine how many PAX will travel each route; the current Tourism/Business doesn't do it justice I don't think. The New York route (from Heathrow) handles multiple 747s a day; yet this isn't possible to replicate even with 3 A319s. Therefore, I wonder if it would be possible to code in set passenger numbers based on those of today, and amend these as is currently possible with food and pricing strategies.

-My final thought revolves around having plane running costs advertised when purchasing; the 787 isn't worth purchasing in the game, yet in real life, the running costs of it are very much lower due to advanced technology than its rivals.

I'm guessing that none of these would be too difficult to implement really, but it obviously depends if that is what everyone else would want! Let's see if you agree.

Game Ideas/Improvements Empty Add to list

Post  SullySullinburg Mon Jul 09, 2012 3:08 pm

I think that you shouldn't have to have a hub to open a route to that city. It's not like that in the real world. It would make more sense if you open one main hub. Then you fly to all of these cities then once one city i.e dallas gets a lot of traffic you get the option to open a hub there to handle more traffic. And you should have to pay for fuel, and that be an important part of the aircraft info. Also i like the idea of a vip fleet, just like a cargo fleet. So they can be placed at airports and used for a standard price per 100 miles or something like that. And have events for a quarter so one airport gets a lot of demand.

Thanks
